Why Community, Education and Networking Are Essential? Reflections of 3DISE conference

Attending the 3DISE conference was more than just an opportunity to see the latest in 3D, immersive, and spatial experiences. It was a reminder of how critical educationcommunity, and networking are to growth in this rapidly evolving industry (such as ours).

For those who don’t know … 3DISE conference is the event for industry leaders, experts, and enthusiasts shaping the future of photogrammetry, laser scanning (LiDAR), surveying, Gaussian splatting, immersive technologies, 3D printing, and beyond.

Panel discussion on 3DISE – “Why community, education and collaboration matter” with Olaf Freier, Matthew Byrd and Michal Gula

1. Continuous Learning Is Non-Negotiable

Reality capture and immersive technologies are changing fast. From photogrammetry and LiDAR to VR/AR applications, staying current requires more than just hands-on practice. At 3DISE, workshops and talks weren’t just tech demos—they were deep dives into workflows, ethics, innovation, and cross-industry use cases. It reaffirmed that learning doesn’t stop at mastering tools—it’s about understanding context and impact.

2. Community Fuels Innovation

One of the most powerful takeaways for ME was seeing how open and supportive the immersive tech community really is. Creators, engineers, developers, and marketers sharing news and case studies that pushes the whole industry forward.

For example case study about reconstruction the Alcatraz by Owner of VCTO LabsPete Kelsey was something on the next level – community, teamwork and excitement.

All the shared conversations … whether in formal panels, dining area or with a proper Czech beer spark new ideas and challenge our assumptions.

3. Networking Builds Real-World Opportunities

In industries as niche and specialized as immersive tech, your network is more than your contact list … it’s your knowledge base, your collaboration pool, and often your gateway to new projects.

At 3DISE, I connected with professionals working on everything from heritage digitization to XR, and those conversations alone were worth the trip. The future of this industry will be built not just by individuals, but by ecosystems.

Final Thoughts

As someone who works in immersive content and experiential marketing, 3DISE was a clear reminder: tools and tech matter, but people, shared learning, and collaboration matter even more.

If you’re in this space … whether you’re capturing spaces, building XR environments, or crafting interactive experiences … don’t underestimate the power of showing up, sharing, and staying curious.

Thanks a lot to a Michal GulaTomas Barnas & Matthew Byrd for making this lovely event even possible and to every speaker and participant.
