A 3D virtual tour is a type of virtual tour with a fully virtual and computer-created environment. Compared to classic virtual tours, which are created from 360° photos or 360° videos, these 3D virtual tours are created from 3D models. In other words, someone needs to create a digital environment that the user can explore with a virtual tour.
These virtual tours are popular for real estate projects because they can showcase a space that does not even exist at that time. 3D artists (3D creators) need to create a 360° view of the apartment or 3D model to showcase the space for potential customers. However, this is not the only industry where 3D modeling is used for virtual tour creation.
However, compared to classic 360° virtual tours, these 3D virtual tours take longer to make (3D modeling process) and cost on average more if we are thinking about a high-quality 3D virtual tour.
For example, Matterport virtual tours are also 3D virtual tours. However, 3D models are captured from an existing location with photography and LiDAR technology. And therefore it’s much cheaper because no extra 3D modeling on the computer needs to be done.
