« Back to Glossary Index

Storytelling is an ability of telling a story in a pleasant way, so that your listeners can fully imagine the environment and remember the main idea of the story.

This skill is really important in a lot of professions, however today we will be talking how a storytelling can be useful in a marketing context, more specifically how a story telling can be power in a virtual tours.

Storytelling in marketing

In marketing context a storytelling refers to how marketers communicate a message to their customers (audience). It can be a message about new product (service) and its features or even a brand story about companies values.

It this way a company can talk to their target audience in a way that is consistent with a brand value and it’s rememberable for the audience.

In context of a virtual tour … Virtual tour is a digital immersive experience and can be part of experiential marketing campaign. However, most virtual tour out there lack of customization, personalization and storytelling features. And that is why they are not effective in terms of persuading a visitor to make an action (eg. booking, completing a form, …).

But virtual tours which are created with specific business goal in mind and use storytelling features can easily communicate the problem (opportunity) which virtual tour is solving for the customers.

Example of Virtual tour without storytelling vs Virtual tour with storytelling:

Imagine you create a virtual tour for a hotel resort which has clients around the world.

  • Virtual tour without a storytelling will show how accommodation, loby, or swimming pool looks like. And welcome page (initial page which the user will see when open a virtual tour) can say something like “Explore our hotel with a virtual tour”.
  • Virtual tour with a storytelling will focus on the memories and the experience which can the visitors get form staying at this amazing place. And because we understand that booking a luxury apartment in a hotel resort on the other side of the world can be frustrating and our clients are not really sure if our offer is what they are looking for. We can create a virtual tour which will not just showcase the spaces but also tell a story how great their stay can be and how many great memories they can get. And the welcome page with the storytelling can say something like “Welcome in a hotel resort XXX. Are you thinking to book a stay at our hotel, but not really sure what to expect? Don’t worry, let’s explore it together, so that you know what we can offer.”.

Do you see the difference? Version without storytelling is showing the spaces, but virtual tour with a storytelling letting the potential clients explore their spaces and fully understand if their hotel resort is for them or not. And if so, let them create a reservation inside a virtual tour. So, that they can enjoy the best vacation ever.

Why storytelling works in a virtual tour?

Virtual tour with storytelling is much more rememberable for your clients, because it creates emotional connection and trust. Also people can better understand the product or service which you are offering.

And that is why we recommend adding storytelling into your virtual tour, because it creates more character and more powerful content to your marketing (branding) strategy.
