A 360° camera is a camera that can capture the entire space around in one photo (called a 360° photo). Compared to other possibilities for capturing a 360° photo, 360° cameras provide the easiest way to capture a 360° image in the shortest time.
The only disadvantage is the image quality … most 360° cameras do not provide enough resolution to capture high-quality commercial photography, and therefore they are not used that much for professional use.
The most common 360° cameras for virtual tour creation are Ricoh Theta Z1, Insta 360 X3 (X4 or now X5), Kandao QooCam, or Matterport Pro 2 (now 3).
How is it possible that these cameras can capture the entire space? Compared to other cameras, these cameras have multiple lenses (often a fisheye lens for a wider angle view) to capture a 360-degree field of view. And these photos from different lenses are then stitched together to create a seamless spherical 360° image or 360° video.
A 360° camera allows viewers to explore the entire scene from any angle, creating an immersive experience.
