Are you not sure what a 360° photo is and how it can be useful? What about 360° photo 101? Don’t worry; after reading this blog post, you will know everything you need to know about this topic.

First things first, photography is a broad topic. There are so many types of photography out there. Each type of photo helps you achieve a different goal. Some types are great at grabbing your attention, some are great at capturing specific memories, and so on.

But what about 360° photos? Well, this type of photo, which someone calls a 360-degree photo or panoramic 180-360 photo, is really awesome for capturing a space and letting people explore the space and its atmosphere.

So if you have ever wished to showcase your real space to someone without them actually being there, 360° photos are the way to go!

What is a 360° photo (360-degree photo)?

A 360° photo is a controllable panoramic image that surrounds the original point from where the photo was taken.

What does it mean to have a controllable panoramic image? That’s easy! Normal pictures used by people are static photos, not 360° photos. No interaction. You cannot zoom in or out, drag to the left or right, bottom or  top, or expect that the photo will just change even a little bit over time. It will not. No changes at all.

I need to mention that no interaction does not equal bad. Static photos are a great way to show something (or someone).

But if we are talking about exploring the place as much as possible, Here, 360° photos come into play. 360° photos are interactive, and you can control them. You can zoom in and drag them to any side you wish. And therefore you can explore the place more effectively.

Now look at the difference between a static photo and a 360° photo in the example below.

Explore the differences on your own. And tell us, what is better?

How does 360° photo work? Do you know?

To capture a 360° image you as a photographer will need a camera (DSLR or 360° camera). A photographer (360° photographer) takes numerous photos from the same place so that the final 360° photo can capture everything in the area around it. Then, using an advanced program, these images are stitched together, resulting in a single panoramic image.

Woala!

You can see the final 360° photo using a VR (virtual reality) headset, a computer, a phone, or any other device.

Why are 360° photos beneficial and when can be used?

This photo technique is beneficial because of its ability to showcase any space much more realistically than other alternatives. These are just some of the areas where a 360° photo can be used:

Virtual tour: Just imagine exploring a hotel, home, or popular tourist place even without leaving your house. Thanks to 360° photos, this is possible! They are used by hospitality managers, real estate agents, travel agencies, and many more individuals in different positions.

Event Documentation: 360-degree photography can be used to record events due to the way it can capture the entire atmosphere of a specific place. These images allow you to re-live the event and experience it just like you were truly there, whether it be a wedding, concert, or whatever memory you have.

Marketing and Advertising: Businesses with 360° photos can showcase their products or locations for marketing and advertising purposes. To ensure clients that the product or service is in excellent condition before they buy it (or book it). It does help make an informative decision.

Conclusion

A great way to capture and share immersive experiences is with 360° photos. They have the ability to transport individuals to different locations and let you explore them “in person” by giving you a full view of a scene. 360° images are much more than the classic static photos we are used to. The way we interact with images has changed as a result of 360° photography, whether it be for marketing, virtual tours, or event memories.
