Have you seen a 3D model before? You don’t think you did? Well, Im pretty sure you already did.

A 3D model is a digital object which can be viewed in 3 dimension space (width x height x depth) and can be viewed in different angels. Model are created with different softwares and with different methods, however most 3D models are created either full in computer softwares (such as Blender, SketchUp or Maya) or captured by some sort of scanner and then finalize it in software.

When are 3D models used? And why they are useful?

As I mentioned before, you probably have already seen some 3D models, however maybe you don’t even know about. These are some industries where 3D models are used:

  • Film and special effects
  • Gaming and entertainment industry
  • Architecture, real estate & development
  • Product design
  • XR (AR, VR or MX)

How to create a 3D model?

Before you start, you should have create and idea of what 3D model you want to create and for what reason (aka what problem does this 3D model solves).

After that you either choose to create entire model in software from scratch or to find a method or capturing a object if the object already exists.

Depends on the method you also need to do a texturing, rendering & processing to create realistic 3D model.

Capturing a real object to create a 3D model?

Try to use methods such as photogrammetry, point cloud or new approach with AI which is Gaussian splatting. You are welcome!
